Ted Barrett-Page, JD, LCSW

Founder

The Safe Harbor Method™ project was founded by Ted Barrett-Page, JD, MSW, a Marriage and Family Psychotherapist in Boulder, Colorado who has over 35 years of experience working with couples and families.

After getting his BA, Ted got a degree in law with the intention of serving the disadvantaged. He worked for the Legal Aid Society in St. Louis, to help clients challenge slumlords and fend off other challenges. He found it frustrating, their lives didn’t really change much for the better. They were still impoverished, living in challenging families and in poor school districts.

So, he went back to school, got a Master of Social Work degree, and was licensed as a LCSW. He also trained as a Marriage and Family therapist and became a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists and trained in Gestalt Therapy and EMDR.

Ted first worked with Foster Cline, MD and Parker Oborn, PhD in their Youth Behavior Program in Evergreen, Colorado. Then he worked at the Colorado Institute for Marriage and Family Therapy with Suzanne Pope, PhD and Jan Raynak, MD and ultimately founded the Boulder Relationship Institute where he worked with Couples, Families, and Individuals for 25 years.

Ted met the love of his life, Sally, in 1970 and they have been married for the last 52 years. They have two wonderful children and one fantastic grandson and have enjoyed lots of wonderful adventures as parents. Ted and Sally have used the SHM for the last four years, and it has made a huge difference in their relationship. He really enjoys helping others learn to use the method in their relationships as well as hiking, scuba diving, skiing, dancing, having adventures with his friends and traveling.
